This is what state tournament dreams are made of.
Pleasant Grove trailed 52-50 with six seconds left in the game, and West Jordan just missed a free throw.
Sefa Tanoai grabs the rebound and races downcourt.
The clock ticks down.
Five, four, three, Tanoai stops a foot behind the 3-point line. Two, one.
He puts up a shot at the buzzer!
It's no good.
The sad reality of it is this -- in the end, only one team will have its dream come true.
Pleasant Grove's season came to end on Tuesday night as West Jordan survived a Viking comeback to advance to the quarterfinals in the state 5A tournament with a 52-50 win at West Jordan.
"I saw him (Tanoai) hit two or three of those in pregame, so I felt pretty good about it. That's the kind of shot you're going to have to settle for with four seconds left," said Pleasant Grove coach Randy McAllister. "We were kind of hoping he made the free throw because we had a play set up for that, but as soon as he missed it, we knew we had to push it and take the first good shot we could get. Sefa had a decent look. It looked really good, but it bounced off."
Pleasant Grove looked like it was out of the game on several occasions, but just when the Vikings looked done for, Brady Hoglund would hit one of his five 3-pointers on the night.
Hoglund's biggest 3 came in the closing seconds.
West Jordan had what looked to be a safe 51-47 lead with eight seconds left, but Hoglund popped a 3-pointer to put the Jaguar celebration on hold.
Pleasant Grove immediately fouled Jordan Loveridge with five seconds remaining. He made the first free throw to give the Jaguars a 52-50 lead, but he missed the second one, setting up Pleasant Grove's final shot.
"They were very prepared for us and we were prepared for them. They did a good job scouting us. They took away some things we wanted to do in the early in the game," McAllister said. "I was proud of the way we battled back. Two or three times it looked like we might be out of it. We kept battling back and to have a shot to win it at the buzzer, I was real proud of them."
West Jordan got the breathing room it needed when the Jaguars opened the fourth quarter with five straight points from Tyler Kiesel to give the Jaguars a 42-35 lead.
Bryan Sampson responded with a tip-in basket, but Loveridge answered with an offensive rebound basket.
The vikings cut the led to 44-41 after a free throw from tanoai, but the jaguars wouldn't give up the lead. They made four straight free throws to allow them some room for error. Pleasant grove's final push came with 15 seconds left. Brandon thurgood made two free throws to trim the lead to 50-47. Andre ashton made 1-of-2 free throws to make it a four-point game.
Free throws cost the Vikings a chance at advancing in the tournament. Pleasant Grove made just 7-of-16 free throws, while the Jaguars were 9-of-16, providing the difference in the game.
Hoglund led the Vikings with 15 points. McAllister had 13 points and Tanoai finished with 12. Ashton led West Jordan with 12 points and Loveridge had 12 including three 3-pointers.
